At times we can experience a tension between our Catholic tradition – respecting and recognising each person as an individual – and the requirements of modern society, standards and compliance.
Within a service context, how do we navigate that tension honestly? How does this tension affect how we think as religious organisations? What effect does this tension have on our traditions and embedded behaviours? What do we do when values and principles seemingly pull us in opposite directions?
In this recorded webinar led by Dr Simon Longstaff AO, participants were invited to join this discussion and bring their own examples.
Dr Simon Longstaff has been Executive Director of The Ethics Centre for 30 years, working across business, government and society. He has a PhD in philosophy from Cambridge University, is a Fellow of CPA Australia and of the Royal Society of NSW, and an Adjunct Professor of the AGSM at UNSW. Simon was made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2013.

Australian Catholic Safeguarding Ltd respectfully acknowledges all Traditional Custodians of the land and waters of Australia.
We pay respect to their Elders, past and present, and young leaders of today and the future. ACSL commits itself to the ongoing work of reconciliation with our Aboriginal families and communities.
ACSL acknowledges the lifelong trauma of abuse victims and survivors and their families; the failure of the Catholic Church to protect, believe and respond justly to children and adults at risk; and the consequent breaches of community trust.
